2010 Bicentennial report

The War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission and its Advisory Council have met regularly, and a number of Society members are actively participating as members of the Advisory Council (and your Historian is serving on the Commission).

While bicentennial activities are being planned on a number of fronts, two items are particularly noteworthy.

The Department of Historic Resources has committed to fund and install at least 15 new state highway markers related to the War, with the subject, location and texts still under discussion.

June 7-12, 2012 in Norfolk, there will be an Opsail 2012 international tall ships gathering in Hampton Roads to kick off the War of 1812 bicentennial in Virginia.
