I am getting a genealogical proof completed for application purposes and have a question for Mr. Poland. Will the Society accept my mother’s certified marriage record, which has her date and place of birth on it, as well as her parents’ names, as documentation for both her marriage and her birth? My lineage to the War of 1812 patriot is through my paternal line.

    Thanks

I am doing abit of genealogical research of one John Rickman Holland. I would like to know what rank and which company he was in during the War of 1812. I found the he was either a Sergt. or Corpl. before he going to the Republic of Texas in 1840’s. Any help would be grantful. Thanks.

Ryan: As a Sgt he is shown on a payroll of Captain Hardy Cross Company of Nansemond County attached to the 3rd VA Militia Regiment commanded by Lt Col F. Boykin of Isle of Wight County. These units served in the Norfolk VA area. Nansemond County in 1974 was dissolved and incorporated into the City of Suffock, VA
