  1. David Clark says:

I am trying to research my 4th Great Grandfather, Charles McClaren, born in Fauquier County VA in 1789, He died in 1879 and is buried at the Old Soldier’s Home in Dayton Ohio.

He was possibly assigned to Stapleton Crutchfield’s Detachment of the VA Militia. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    • Mike says:

David: Yes he was in Captain Thomas Jenning’s Company (possibly was Captain Ashby’s Co) of Fauquier County’s 85th Virginia Militia Regiment and he was attached to Major Stapleton’s Detachment consisting of four companies and he was in an engagement with the British at Hampton, VA on Jun 25th 1813. The British occupied Hampton for three days after driving off Stapleton’s Detachment.
